The Angel in the White 4x4
It was my first missions trip to Mexico. We had a great week and on our last afternoon headed to the beach.
After a couple of hours in the sun and surf, we headed back to our van... which was parked in the desert. We jumped in, started it up, gave it some gas and discovered we were sinking!
After all of our attempts to get out, I said "lets lay hands on the van and pray for a miracle."
I didn't have much faith that God was actually going to lift the sinking van out of the sand sink hole. But the team did! And when it came to me, the last person to offer a prayer, I said, "God, send us an angel in a white 4x4 across the desert to pull us out. Amen."
And what did we see? A white 4X4 coming straight for us!
A tall man got out. I asked him, "are you an angel?"
"No, I am a fisherman and an LA fireman," he said. He then pulled us out and we told him our story.
For many years after, the fireman continued to visit the children's home bringing Christmas gifts.
I had a much stronger faith that day. ................................................................................................................................................
Grizelda
Grizelda is the most beautiful Mexican child I have ever met. This precious, little 4-year-old girl with her big, brown eyes and hair of shining, black curls was in pain.
Grizelda suffered from severe eczema. The skin behind her ears had separated from her skull and the infection was critical. This precious, little girl had no smile. She had a deep look of agony.
Two of our team's girls asked if I could help.
"Yes we can clean the infection and use an antibiotic cream to treat the area. It will be painful," I replied. We treated little Grizelda and big, crocodile tears streamed down her face.
For the next five days, we continued this difficult treatment. We left the children's home and Grizelda was instructed to continue for two more weeks until I returned.
Upon my return, who greets me at the gate with a big smile and a hug, was little, precious Grizelda. She immediately pulled back her hair and showed me... she was all better!
The staff said it was a miracle!
I knew it was only a $2 tube of antibiotic cream and hydrogen-peroxide used three times each day. It was basic knowledge that most of us have.
The moral of the story is that we can make a big difference in a child's life! ....................................................................................................................................................
Tiko
Tiko is a little boy from Guerro. I met Tiko on my first trip into Mexico; a cute, little guy living in the children's home.
Over the years we would visit and once he had moved to Tijuana to attend prep school, we spent lots of time together.
Tiko has become a part of our family and has visited our home in Canada many times. It was very special to be a sponsor for Tiko and help him through his trade school and university years. He graduated from UNABC with a Computer Engineering degree and now lives in the USA.
Sponsorship works! Coming alongside a child and walking with them through life makes a big difference!
